Sunrider Base and the Southern California Garrison teamed up the week before Comic-Con for the first ever Course of the Force; a 5 day lightsaber relay from Santa Monica to San Diego. Headed up by the Nerdist and Lucasfilm, all proceeds of this event went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and over th5 days, 1000 wishes were able to be granted.
We had the honor to attend the opening ceremonies and be the checkpoints for the first mile of runners on Day 1.
Day 3 was a bright and early morning at Legoland as we raced in an organized chaos around the park to provide media coverage for every leg of the run and filming.
Thanks to all of our amazing troopers who worked the events, and also to our members who ran the relay as well!
For three weekends, members of the Rebel Legion and the 501st made their presence known at Legoland California. Members from 3 different Rebel Legion bases and 4 501st garrisons put in their collective support to make this year’s Star Wars Weekends a success. The first weekend was the main event. Our troopers greeted guests as the park opened, operated a droid hunt, judged the children’s costume contests, and took photos with all the eager fans (both young and adult).
The following weekends were not as chaotic, as there was not as much programming. This gave our troopers more time to hang out with the park guests and even go on some rides.
After three weeks, we have a group of very exhausted troopers. Still, they were all smiles despite their aching feet. Through freezing cold wind, scattered rain, and piercing hot sunshine, our troops stuck it out and made the event a tremendous success. Legoland as always was a very gracious host, and can’t wait to have us back next year!
